In 2015-16, Puget Sound ESD created a paid high school student internship program to support PSESD’s commitment to racial equity and align our work to student voice. Sarita Siqueiros-Thornburg (Executive Director of Strategy, Evaluation and Learning) and Marques Gittens (Director of Early Warning Systems) are leading this program, which the students have named Leaders in Training (LIT), into its third year.  We have hired 20 interns from King and Pierce County, who are doing joint learning together about leadership, professional conduct, and other topics, and will be placed in summer internships throughout the agency.

Hosting departments and programs include: Communications, Government & Public Relations; Human Resources/Organizational Development; Office of the Superintendent; Strategy, Evaluation & Learning; Workers Compensation Trust and Unemployment Pool; Expanded Learning; Postsecondary Readiness; and Early Warning Systems. Anisa, Sierra, and Tallulah, three returning high school interns (LIT Peer Mentors) are co-leading the design of this year’s internship activities, including the hiring process for the new interns.
