The Northwest Educational Service District 189 provided coordination and support to the 2018 Migrant Summer School staff in piloting, for the first time, four dental screening events at Bellingham, Sedro-Woolley, Mount Vernon and Burlington-Edison school districts. Through partnership contracts with Unity Care Northwest and Sea Mar Community Health Centers, 116 migrant students received dental screenings and individual dental hygiene instruction this summer.

The Migrant Education Health Program (MEHP) is a referral-based, collaborative partnership model that helps eligible migrant students and their families gain access to comprehensive health at no cost to the family. The MEHP is designed to help migrant children overcome health-related problems that inhibit their ability to succeed in school or in other educational programs. These opportunities would not have been possible without the tireless work of the Migrant Summer School staff in each of these districts. We look forward to expanding this program in upcoming years!
