Deeper Learning Spring Symposium at the NWESD (May 22, 2018)
Innovative Educators Symposium “Transforming Learning in the NW”

The NWESD is thrilled to continue the dive into deeper learning; we hosted a free Innovative Educators Symposium at the NWESD in Anacortes on May 22. Educators from around our region presented the units and lesson they have created which included Collaborative inquiry topics like “Concept Based Learning” and “Jump Start Engagement through Critical Thinking and Creativity” to name a few. Guest speakers Max Drummy and Joanne McEachen, from The Learner First also presented “Intro to Deeper Learning” for districts new to this work.

Attendees experienced deeper learning from the practitioner’s perspective while learning to use a global competency rubric. We also celebrated our second year of our regional deep learning collaboration. School teams shared strategies that they have used to create deeper learning conditions in their schools. Teachers shared their plans and how they used principles of lesson design which have led to deeper learning experiences for all students.
