|
Chuck Stocker is a household name in the Spokane Valley.
|
He was invited to teach at Central Valley in 1964 (before some of us were born). He was born on a dairy farm in Snohomish, entered the R.O.T.C. program, and served in the Army—all of which qualified Chuck to teach Agricultural Education at Central Valley High School.
|
In the 1960s, that was a very rural area. He loved teaching but was quickly promoted to administration. He eventually served as Assistant Superintendent in charge of Secondary Education. From there, he became Personnel Director, then served two superintendencies (Freeman 1987–1991 and East Valley 1991–1998).
|
Not wanting to leave education, Chuck accepted a 10-year position in public relations at Inland Power and Light, where he worked to educate people about public power. All told, Chuck has been involved in education for 64 years!
|
Today, Chuck reminds us, "We need to get more of our faculty members C.T.E. certified." Now that the Spokane Valley has become a suburb, he believes, "Our communities change—we need to change, too!"
